The encoded protein localizes to the membranes of late endosomes and may be involved in exporting cholesterol. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.[provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009] Function: Binds and transports cholesterol. Promotes steroidogenesis in placenta and brain.
