background: This gene encodes a member of the microtubule-associated serine/threonine protein kinases. The proteins in this family contain a domain that gives the kinase the ability to determine its own scaffold to control the effects of their kinase activities. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2014] Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm. Tissue Specificity: Highly expressed in most normal human tissues, with an exception of in testis, small intestine, colon and peripheral blood leukocyte. Post-translational modifications: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR. Similarity: Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. AGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family.
